This telenovela tells about a poor good-hearted and honest indian girl Maria Isabel.She lives with her father Pedro and
 her stepmother Chona.But they hate her throughout her life.The best friend of Maria Isabel is  Graciela.Ones Graciela meets
a man of her dreem, falls in love with him and gets pregnant.But because she is afraid of her fathers wrath, she leaves her town with Maria Isabel and they go to Guadalajara.Here Graciela dies after she has given birth to her baby.Maria Isabel goes to Mexico with Rosa Isela, the doughter of her fiend Graciela.Some years later, she meets Ricardo, who employs her as a servant in his house.Mar?a Isabel falls in love with him but she keeps it a secret for many years. An incident makes her confess her love and Ricardo realizes then that he is also in love with her and decides to marry her. But Rosa Isela abandons Maria Isabel and falls in love with Ricardo.But after a lot of suffering and many obstacles, true love finally wins against all odds and triumphs over superstitions and arrogance.
